LUPO BORGONOVO
"Aplomb" | Level 0
The Museo del Novecento presents “Level 0”, ArtVerona’s initiative in collaboration with fourteen Italian contemporary art institutions that aims at promoting emerging artists who have distinguished themselves during the fair and are then chosen and presented by each museum.
This year they exhibit in the halls of the Museum: Lupo Borgonovo, chosen for the 2018 edition, and Silvia Giambrone for 2019, this project continues with the virtual exhibition on Google Arts & Culture.
Lupo Borgonovo, selected in 2018, is exhibiting until August 22 "Aplomb" a series of ten watercolour drawings, joined by an eleventh, which will become part of the museum’s collection.
The subject of the works is the evolution over time of a pair of asparagus portrayed in real life, from when they were fresh to when they ripened and aged. Each panel shows an episode of a hypothetical choreography, halfway between eroticism and irony, approaching a classic theme such as still life and trying to actualize it through references to artists such as Édouard Manet and Max Ernst.
The artist produces his drawings through a process of research and transformation of images from different fields: natural elements, everyday objects and art collections from the past, selecting them for their formal singularity. This enables him, through subsequent technical and compositional procedures, to make the subjects unrecognisable, giving them a new contextualization and symbolic meaning.
